Opening Ceremony of Training Centers

With the continuous financial support of Tearfund (UK) from 2016, JECUP is working with marginalized communities in the areas of Samnabad town (Lahore) and surrounding villages of Raiwind. Females are mostly uneducated unskilled. Many of them belong to deprived families and are compelled to take job as domestic workers where they are mistreated and abused in a hostile work environment. JECUP is working to bring visible change in the lives of women through rights-based and development initiatives. It ensures that women are provided with opportunities to secure and empower them, socially and economically.

2nd TRAINING OF TRAINERS (TOT)INTEGRAL MISSION – UMOJA

It is great honor for us to share the successful report of UMOJA TOT Training report.

I think there are many organizations who are doing good work. So why are we doing this? I think God has called us to facilitate our community, to have a diverse impact. We visited these needy areas, we teach, inspired and motivate people to be the transformational agent in their society. Because God has called us to reach these people with his transformational spirit and love.  We are thankful to our God that we are working according to the vision of UMOJA. I must say it is an exciting and transformational church and community initiative. It helps church leaders and their congregations to work together with the local community to bring about positive change for the whole community.

JECUP organized Umoja TOT “Training of Trainers” program with 19 trainees from local church Pastors, Leaders and Community members, with support of TEARFUND on March 23, 24, 2019 at Pakistan Assemblies of God Church , Yousaf Nager SheraKot, Lahore.

We Teach andTrained 19 Participants of 8 churches.

PURPOSE:

  • self-reliance
  • self esteem
  • sustainable change
  • improved community relationships
  • physical changes: such as better health, sanitation, food security and incomes.
  • ‘Umoja has made us realize ourselves, we are not poor, we actually have a lot of resources’

OBJECTIVES:

  • To train specific group of UMOJA Trainees for leading others & helping local churches and communities build on the resources and skills they already have.
  • become a positive influence in community life
  • build relationships with people outside the church
  • identify and utilize their own resources more effectively

CONTENTS OF TOT UMOJA

The five stages of Umoja TOT are mentioned below:

  1. Local church envisioning
  2. Local community envisioning
  3. Dreaming dreams and planning for action
  4. Taking action
  5. Evaluation

The TOT program consisted of 5 different sessions out of which 3 of them were with practical group exercises. Two groups were formed and each group was allowed to select its own project, discuss it and then come up with consensus to the introduction session. During the group presentations, real and important discussions and experience was shared between participants. They were also required to share critical and supportive comments/suggestions about the presentations from the rival group. Trainers also commented on the performance of both the groups.

It was ensured that those running the workshop are familiar with the Umoja process and its supporting guides so that they can respond to concerns and questions from participants.Also, workshops were made lively and fun so that it captures the spirit of Umoja and therefore inspire them to support it. Hence, plenty of energizers and group discussions were arranged.

Total 19 participants attended this training that were active church members and influencers in community.

Facilitators were fully equipped having good facilitating skills. They delivered essential knowledge&demonstrated practical ways to accomplish the desired goals.

IMPACTS:

  • After this training in the churches, We gave vision for the development of the church and community.
  • The church pastors told us: “Why didn’t you start with this? This is what we want to do. By showing us how to work with the whole community, you are showing us how to share our burden with other!”
  • Enabled to assist facilitation and leading role in local churches for the implementation of UMOJA tools.
  • Enable the participants to live and work in the community and build strong relationships of trust among them.
  • Church leaders with integrity and increased motivations.
  • Can help to ensure that the church remains engaged in the process of community uplifting.
  • Gain the skills that can benefit both the church and the community.

Training for Self-Help group (women)

This is brief report of the one day training workshop on the topic, “Business management & entrepreneurship”, with women of skill training centres and Self Help Group Samanabad, Lahore organized by JECUP, Pakistan in partnership with Tearfund, UK, 2019, from 6:00 pm to 8:30pm, and heldat ChurchSamanbad, Lahore.The teachers and students of different sewing and beautician training centers participated in the workshop.

Welcome and Introduction of participants: Pastor Airf, welcomed the participants, the facilitator Mr. Hector Nihal and shared with the participants the agenda and objectives of the training workshop.

Prayer & Word of God: Pastor Arif, shared the word of God, highlighting the importance of focusing on the care of body and soul both. He said God wants us to develop ourselves physically as well as spiritually. He is interested in the full human development.

 The following key points were discussed by the facilitators.

  • Business management and Entrepreneurship:- Hector Nihal, the facilitator thanked the organizers for providing him this opportunity to share his knowledge and experience on the topic business management and entrepreneurship. He shared the objectives of the session and strategy and used participatory tools to accomplish the objectives of the workshop.
  • The session was based on the following points;
    • Understanding the concept of small business
    • Basic requirement of small business
    • How to manage a small business

Group work:The facilitator divided the participants into small groups and had the income and expenditure analyses of two families using the pitcher as symbol; 1) a family that is doing small business, 2) a family that is an employee?

Group presentation;In the group presentation they highlighted the following points;

  • The both groups realized that they have more expenditure than their income.
  • The participants realized that then need to focus on the savings
  • The facilitator gave a critical analysis of the presentation and highlighted the important points.

Business management: Based on the findings of the presentation the facilitator highlighted the following points to help the participants to understand the concept of small business, and how they can start a small business and small scale level.

    • What is small business?
      • Small business is any work started by an individual or a group, with small amount on small scale, to sell his /her skill or product.
    • What is difference between business and job?
      • In business you are the owner and responsible for its overall management and production, and has a right over its whole income, where are job is that you are working under someone as an employee, and you are paid for your time and skill.
    • What are the key elements of small business?
      • Be aware about the type of skill or product she/he want to sell or produce, develop a business plan
      • Has complete knowledge and information about the business he/she want to do? Market analysis?, He must know his/her customer and their socio economic situation and psychological needs
      • Resource analysis
      • Income and expenditure analysis
    • How we can start a small business as an individual and as a group?
      • Develop a business plan?
      • Mobilize resources
      • Start a business
      • Have regular monitoring and evaluation
      • Learn from mistakes and success

New Sewing Center, Church of Pakistan, Raiwind Diocese

Anum: I am really very thankful for opening this center, this center is giving me hope that I will learn from here and I will be a supporter for my family. I thank the administration for their concern and I must say that this is the true way to bring light into darkness.

Nehala Aleeza Ashraf: I am very happy to registered my name with this center and thankful to JECUP for opening this center. After finishing my sewing learning I will be able to support my family   within six months then I can do better plan for bright future. I will share my work experience with others. Once again I am very thankful to the team of JECUP who make a light of hope in our village.

Opening Sewing Center, United Pentecostal Church Mission

10th April  2019

The registered candidates were 28, who were given an introduction of JECUP and the benefits that are available to them through these trainings. The venue for ceremony was United Pentecostal Church Mission Colony Raiwind.

Arooj  Saleem: She said that she used to make bricks in a kiln with her family, because she is  uneducated and she have to worked with her family. But “this center will change my life. Today I registered my name and hopefully within six months I will become a skilled woman. I hope  I will earn respectfully. Thank s to all for deep concern for  us.

Opening Sewing Training Center, Redeem Christian Church of God

7th April 2019

The ceremony had 30 registered candidates who were given an introduction of JECUP and the benefits that are available to them through these trainings. The venue for ceremony was arranged by Church Council and Parish Priest whom we are obliged.

Maria Arshad: I am really grateful to God and to the JECUP management for this opportunity.” I am a domestic worker, I daily went to work in others home, I work for them and also heard their abused by their bad language.  But now I took admission in this center. I hope and pray that after receiving this sewing skill, I will become confident in making dresses. I could be financially helpful to my family. I will earned money in respectful way.
